Borno Governor Fires All Commissioners In Surprise Move

According to Ireporter Online, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has dismissed all commissioners and dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect. The decision is aimed at allowing commissioners who intend to run for elective offices in the 2027 general elections to step down from their executive roles without conflicts of interest.

Governor Zulum has instructed all former commissioners to hand over the management of their ministries to the Permanent Secretaries by Friday, April 3, 2026. He expressed appreciation for the commissioners’ service, dedication, and contributions to the development of Borno State during their tenure.

In a similar move, Cross River State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, has directed members of his State Executive Council and political appointees with intentions to contest in the 2027 elections to resign on or before March 26, 2026. The directive, issued during the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, is part of efforts to ensure focus, discipline, and integrity in governance.

Governor Otu emphasized that no political appointee with ambitions for the 2027 elections would be permitted to remain in office beyond the stipulated deadline.

“As Governor of Cross River State, I have directed that any member of the State Executive Council, as well as all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections, must resign from office on or before March 26, 2026,” Otu stated.
