[BREAKING] Certificate Controversy: Tinubu Asks Supreme Court To Reject Atiku’s New Evidence (DETAILS)
President Bola Tinubu has submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court opposing Atiku Abubakar’s request to introduce fresh evidence in his appeal against the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s judgment.
Abubakar, who ran as the Presidential Candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, had claimed discrepancies and forgeries in President Tinubu’s academic records.

His application in a US court in the northern district of Illinois to compel Chicago State University to release Tinubu’s academic records was approved.
The former Vice President now aims to present this evidence at the highest court in Nigeria.

However, in his response to the main appeal, President Tinubu argued that the accusation of certificate forgery wasn’t raised in Abubakar’s initial petition to the tribunal.
He asserted that the tribunal was correct in striking out certain paragraphs of the petitioners’ replies that attempted to introduce new issues (including the certificate forgery claim) which weren’t part of the main petition.
President Tinubu stated that Atiku’s application, which was approved in the US court, is unrelated to the ongoing appeal before the Supreme Court and does not stem from the tribunal’s record or judgment.
He further contended that the entire appeal lacks merit and should be dismissed.
Atiku and the PDP had lodged a petition challenging the outcome of the presidential election held on February 25, 2023.
However, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal ruled on September 6 that Atiku had failed to substantiate the allegations in his petition.
Subsequently, the PDP candidate filed an appeal before the apex court on September 18, 2023.
No specific date has been set for the Supreme Court’s hearing of the appeal.
