Breaking: LASU Vice-Chancellor Announces 153-First Class Graduates At 27th-Convocation (Details)

The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, announced yesterday that 153 students would be graduating with First Class honors during the institution’s 27th convocation ceremony, scheduled from May 30 to June 6.

At a news conference, Olatunji-Bello revealed that out of the 8,670 students graduating with first degrees, 3,029 earned Second Class (Upper Division), 715 made Second Class (Lower Division), 228 achieved a Pass, and 195 obtained non-classified degrees.

Additionally, she highlighted the achievements among postgraduate students, stating: “Of the 2,164 postgraduate students, there are 375 with postgraduate diplomas, 962 with academic master’s degrees, 672 with professional master’s degrees, 89 with Doctor of Philosophy degrees, and 66 with professional doctoral degrees.”

The best graduating student for the 2022/2023 academic session is Olaniyi Olawale (Accounting Education) with a CGPA of 4.79, while Olaitan Damilola (Educational Management), with a CGPA of 4.98, is the best graduating student for master’s degrees.

“Among the 554 diploma students graduating, there are 55 distinctions, 274 upper credits, 224 lower credits, and one pass,” Prof. Olatunji-Bello added.

She emphasized the university’s commitment to providing a conducive academic environment that promotes personal growth for both staff and students. This environment, she noted, has contributed to the notable achievements of many alumni, including the 10 Faculty of Law alumni who graduated with first-class honors in their final bar examinations at the Nigerian Law School earlier this year.

The convocation lecture, themed ‘Embracing the Future: Navigating the Intersection of Technology and Humanity,’ will be delivered by former Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola on June 4. Fashola was previously conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Urban and Rural Community Development and Youth Empowerment) during the institution’s last convocation.

The lecture will be chaired by Emeritus Prof. Peter Okebukola, the first in the university’s history to be conferred with the exclusive rank of Emeritus Professor by the university Senate.

In addition to the 89 doctorate awardees, honorary doctorate degrees will be awarded to four eminent Nigerians for their invaluable contributions to the development of Nigeria. The honorees are Prof. Martins Anetekhai, Prof. Amidu Sanni, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, and Prince Samuel Adedoyin.
