Naira Marley and Sam Larry have been named as defendants alongside the police and the Lagos magistrate in the suit filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The magistrate had directed the detention of Naira Marley and Sam Larry in police custody for a period of 21 days concerning the demise of 27-year-old Mohbad, who passed away earlier in September.
Olalekan Ojo (SAN), the legal representative for Naira Marley and Sam Larry, informed Channels Television that both defendants are petitioning the court to affirm that their prolonged detention “at the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State since October 4, 2023” constitutes a violation of their rights.
They contend that the magistrate’s directive for their detention was solely for 21 days, and that this period has already expired. They are seeking “an order of the court for their immediate release.”
