BREAKING: Reps Confirms N130m Worth Utility Prado Jeeps For Lawmakers (DETAILS)
The House of Representatives has affirmed that the National Assembly is currently in the process of procuring and distributing utility Prado jeeps valued at N130 million for lawmakers.
Representative Rotimi Akin, the House of Representatives’ spokesperson, made this announcement in a statement released on Sunday night in Abuja, acknowledging that this development comes at a time when Nigerians are facing economic challenges.
Mr. Akin emphasized that this initiative adheres to existing procurement laws and is a customary practice observed in previous assemblies. He clarified that the distribution of the vehicles is specifically related to lawmakers’ oversight responsibilities in their respective standing committees and should not be construed as personal gifts.
“For the duration of the 10th assembly, spanning from 2023 to 2027, these vehicles will remain the property of the National Assembly.
”However, should the government’s extant assets deboarding policy still be in place at the end of the assembly’s tenure in 2027, lawmakers may have the option to purchase the vehicles before they become their property. ”

He underscored the significance of these vehicles in augmenting the performance of lawmakers’ responsibilities, particularly in their oversight roles across different regions of the country.
Mr. Akin emphasized that the aim was to ensure that government interventions, programs, and policies were executed efficiently, regardless of where Nigerian citizens reside.
He drew attention to the decreasing percentage of the legislature’s budget within the national budget, which has been on a steady decline over the past decade, currently resting at 0.5 percent of the federal budget.
He called upon stakeholders to concentrate on cost-cutting in appropriate areas while offering their support to lawmakers in their endeavors to carry out their duties with effectiveness and integrity.
He clarified that these vehicles are tools for work, not symbols of status, intended to facilitate enhanced representation, outreach to constituents, and the oversight functions performed by elected representatives.
