Breaking: Southwest Governors Endorse Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Announce Bold New Initiatives
The six governors of the South-West region gathered in Lagos on Thursday, February 13, to discuss pressing issues affecting the region.

At the conclusion of the closed-door meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu presented an 11-point communique highlighting their resolutions:
The forum praised President Bola Tinubu for his economic policies, particularly in stabilizing fuel supply and exchange rates. It urged Nigerians to support his administration’s efforts to strengthen the economy.
The governors applauded the Federal Government for successfully implementing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has benefited students in South-West tertiary institutions. They encouraged eligible students to take full advantage of the initiative.
The forum congratulated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on his victory in the Ondo State gubernatorial election held on November 16, 2024.
The governors commended their collective efforts in maintaining peace during the festive season and called for continued cooperation among states to ensure regional security.
Expressing concern over terrorist threats in the region, the forum condemned the activities of ISWAP and emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration between security agencies to combat insurgency.
The forum resolved to create a joint security monitoring team with aerial surveillance technology to strengthen intelligence-sharing and coordination among states.
The governors endorsed the establishment of the South-West Development Commission (SWDC) and agreed to situate its headquarters at Cocoa House, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The forum acknowledged the efforts of Odu’a Investment Company in managing regional assets and praised its redevelopment projects, including Premier Hotel in Ibadan and Lagos Airport Hotel.
To address food security concerns, the governors emphasized the need for inter-state collaboration in tackling food inflation and supporting local production.
The forum expressed concern over price manipulation by traders and agreed to establish state-level monitoring teams and food hubs to regulate market prices.
The governors commended the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission for its contributions to regional industrialization and infrastructure development.
The South-West Governors’ Forum reaffirmed its commitment to regional progress and collective development strategies.
