Bribe Rejected! Nigerian Soldiers Turn Down ₦13.7M Terrorist Offer in Daring Plateau Operation

In a remarkable show of patriotism and integrity, Nigerian troops operating under Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State rejected a staggering ₦13.7 million bribe offered by two suspected terrorists. According to iReporter Online, the suspects had attempted to buy their freedom after being intercepted along the Jos–Sanga Road during a military operation.

This revelation came on Thursday as Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, briefed journalists in Abuja on recent developments in ongoing military campaigns across the country. He confirmed that the suspects were caught after troops responded to a distress call regarding terrorist activity in the area.

“On July 9, our troops stopped a vehicle riddled with bullet holes. The occupants, suspected terrorists, tried to offer ₦13.7 million to secure their release, but our personnel stood firm and declined,” Kangye said, adding that the troops proceeded to arrest both suspects, recover the cash, weapons, ammunition, and the vehicle in question.

According to iReporter Online, the military has since secured the seized items while investigations continue to determine the full extent of the suspects’ operations and affiliations. The arrests are part of a broader counter-terrorism offensive that has recently yielded positive results across several volatile zones.

Kangye further reported that forces carried out targeted missions in multiple local government areas within Plateau and Kaduna states, including Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Jos East, Kaura, Sanga, and Wase. These operations led to the arrest of 12 suspects, the rescue of three kidnap victims, and the recovery of assorted weapons, motorcycles, and other assets.

Additionally, routine patrols in Plateau’s Barkin Ladi and Jos South, Wamba in Nasarawa, and Sanga in Kaduna State resulted in the capture of seven more individuals suspected of militia and criminal activity. Recovered items included illegal drugs and ammunition, further indicating the extent of criminal operations being dismantled.

Commending the troops for their discipline and moral fortitude, Kangye emphasized the need for sustained public support in the fight against terrorism. “The courage of our soldiers is commendable. According to iReporter Online, their refusal to accept bribes is a strong message that the Nigerian military cannot be compromised,” he noted.

He reiterated the military’s commitment to restoring peace and stability throughout Nigeria, warning that anyone attempting to obstruct justice or bribe military personnel would face the full wrath of the law. “Our transparency and dedication to national security will remain unwavering,” he concluded.
