Bright Chimezie Signs With Sony Music West Africa After Davido Meeting

Legendary Nigerian highlife musician Bright Chimezie has officially joined Sony Music Publishing (SMP) West Africa, just two weeks after a notable meeting with Afrobeats sensation Davido.

The music deal was announced over the weekend by Sony Music on Instagram, where the company welcomed Chimezie, hailing him as the creator of the iconic Zigma sound and a musical legend.

The development follows a recent moment in May when Davido publicly praised Chimezie, revealing that one of the veteran’s albums was a major influence on his hit song “With You” featuring Omah Lay. That recognition appears to have played a key role in the new collaboration.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Davido has been linked to a Sony Music signing. Just days earlier, former DMW artist Mayorkun disclosed that Davido also helped him secure his own Sony Music Africa deal after leaving the label.

Chimezie’s signing marks a major milestone in his decades-long career, as he joins a new generation of African artists making waves on the global music scene with the backing of major international record labels.
