However, Badenoch expressed grave concerns that such behavior might be ‘misinterpreted’, potentially leading to irreversible medical interventions under the guise of gender transition.

Backing her assertions with a range of studies, Badenoch underscored that gender treatment could be tantamount to a modern form of conversion therapy, with an ‘almost epidemic’ proportion of young gay individuals being erroneously labeled as transgender.

Citing extensive research, including Dutch and German studies dating back to 1999 and 2008 respectively, Badenoch highlighted a consistent pattern linking gender non-conformity in childhood with later homosexual sexual orientation, cautioning against premature medical interventions that could hinder individuals’ development of a homosexual identity.

Furthermore, Badenoch referenced data from the NHS’s Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS), indicating a notable prevalence of non-heterosexual orientations among older patients referred to the clinic.
