Bwala Labels Peter Obi an Opportunist, Claims Ex-Governor Lacks Clear Political Identity

Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has criticised the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as an opportunistic politician grappling with an identity crisis.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, excerpts of which surfaced on X on Wednesday, Bwala argued that Obi had failed to properly define his political stance.

“He (Obi) has not defined his identity in politics, so he finds himself like an opportunistic politician,” Bwala remarked.

The lawyer-turned-politician also shared his thoughts on the 2023 presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, noting that Atiku would have made a remarkable president. However, he expressed reservations about Atiku outperforming President Bola Tinubu.

“Atiku would have been a great president. But whether he would have been greater than Asiwaju, I doubt it now,” Bwala stated.

Highlighting the political atmosphere under President Tinubu, Bwala revealed that the president encourages divergent opinions. He said that despite being part of the presidency, he openly disagreed with Tinubu on key issues such as fuel subsidy removal and the floating of the naira.

“Till tomorrow morning, the president of Nigeria told me, ‘you’re free to object with any policy decision and disagree,’” Bwala disclosed.
