Chaos in Borno: Terrorists Launch Deadly Assault, Two Soldiers Killed in Counter-Offensive
Troops of the Nigerian Army successfully thwarted an attempted attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents on their base in New Marte, Borno State, on Tuesday.
According to reports, the terrorists attempted to breach the military position but were met with intense resistance from soldiers under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), forcing the attackers to retreat.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command, OPHK, confirmed the incident in a statement. He revealed that while the troops effectively repelled the assault, two soldiers tragically lost their lives during the fierce confrontation.
Kovangiya stated that several insurgents were neutralized, and troops recovered a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV that had been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
“In the early hours of May 27, 2025, troops of Operation Hadin Kai repelled an attempted incursion by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in New Marte. The operation was supported by both ground forces and air components, which provided real-time Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and precision strikes that decimated several of the fleeing terrorists,” he said.
He added that multiple motorcycles used by the terrorists were destroyed in targeted air raids. A search of the area revealed the corpses of insurgents and blood trails along their escape route, indicating more enemy casualties.
The statement further disclosed that a separate attempt by terrorists to attack the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe was also decisively repelled by Nigerian troops.
