Chibok Parents Mourn Buhari, Demand Tinubu’s Urgent Action: “87 Daughters Still Missing!”
Parents of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in 2014 have expressed both grief and continued anguish following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari. While mourning his passing, they used the moment to renew demands on the federal government to rescue the remaining 87 girls still in captivity.
According to iReporter Online, the Association of Parents of the Missing Chibok Girls, in a statement signed by representatives Yana Galang and Zannah Mohammed, acknowledged that Buhari’s administration had made partial progress in securing the release of some of the girls. They noted that while a number of reunions brought hope, much of that optimism has faded due to the prolonged wait for justice and closure.
“When President Buhari assumed office in 2015, we held onto cautious hope,” the statement read. “And though some of our daughters were returned during his time in office — for which we are quietly grateful — 87 remain missing.”
The group lamented the “deep wound” left by the unresolved crisis, describing it as a national tragedy worsened by the lack of consistent updates and waning public interest. According to iReporter Online, the grieving parents appealed to President Bola Tinubu and security agencies to act decisively and urgently, moving beyond promises and platitudes to concrete rescue operations.
“The journey is not over,” they declared. “Our demand remains unchanged: Bring back our girls — every single one of them.”
They further stated that while the world mourns a former leader, families of the abducted girls are still mourning the absence of their children, more than a decade after their abduction. According to iReporter Online, the call to action echoes the sentiments behind the global #BringBackOurGirls movement, which once commanded international attention but has since seen a troubling decline in momentum.
