According to Ireporter Online, Afrobeats star CKay has recounted the sacrifices behind his rise to fame, revealing how he defied his parents’ wishes to pursue a career in music.

The “Love Nwantiti” hitmaker shared during a livestream conversation with Carter Efe that he left home at the age of 19 after his parents opposed his musical ambitions. He disclosed that he relocated from Kaduna to Lagos in pursuit of his passion, despite the lack of initial support.

CKay explained that upon arriving in Lagos, he first stayed with a friend before eventually securing a one-room apartment. He added that he worked tirelessly as a music producer across four different studios in order to sustain himself financially while building his career.

According to him, he also dropped out of university during this period as he fully committed to his music journey. He noted that he even reached out to his mother via a handwritten letter sent through BlackBerry to explain his decision.

The singer stated that his breakthrough came in 2018 with the release of “Container,” which brought him into the spotlight. His global success was later cemented the following year when “Love Nwantiti” became a worldwide sensation, breaking multiple African records and surpassing one billion streams on Spotify.
