Cult Members In Trouble As Govt Set To Enact Law Pronouncing Death Penalty On Cultists

The Ogun State Government is poised to pass a law that will impose the death penalty on individuals involved in cult activities within the state. Governor Dapo Abiodun revealed this during a meeting with the Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, at the Akarigbo Palace in the Sagamu area.

Expressing dismay over the widespread violence in Sagamu and its surroundings, Abiodun emphasized that the government would not stand idly by while unruly individuals wreak havoc in any part of the state.

“We will spare no effort to ensure that we hold anyone directly, indirectly, or remotely accountable for these acts,” he declared. “I have discussed with the Attorney General that our legal framework permits such cases of heinous crimes.”

“As the governor of this state, it is well within my authority to enact the death penalty, and we will take steps to implement it. When people comprehend the gravity of their actions, perhaps they will reconsider,” he added.

Abiodun further stated that he had instructed the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the State Service (DSS), the Commander of the Civil Defence, the Amotekun Commander, and the entire security apparatus to relocate to Sagamu for this purpose.

“We will lean on our traditional rulers, as they are closest to the community, for all the necessary intelligence support, because these individuals are not invisible. They live among us, they reside in our homes,” he emphasized.

He also announced a firm stance on landlords who unknowingly rent their properties to criminals involved in cultism or kidnapping, vowing to demolish such residences.

Henceforth, the governor emphasized, these individuals will be referred to as murderers rather than cultists, and they will face penalties commensurate with such heinous crimes. Abiodun concluded by asserting that he would not entertain any sentiments that could hinder the government’s efforts to bring further progress to the state.
