According to industry reports, the prices of leading cement brands in Nigeria, including Dangote, BUA, Lafarge, and Mangal, have continued to rise in recent weeks, sparking concern among builders, contractors, and construction businesses.

Market surveys indicate that a 50kg bag of cement now sells between ₦11,800 and ₦12,000 in several markets, with traders highlighting the lack of a consistent pricing framework. Stakeholders in the construction sector say the persistent price hikes are affecting operations, slowing down building projects, and raising the overall cost of construction materials. Some developers have reportedly suspended projects due to these escalating costs.

Industry experts attribute the surge in cement prices to multiple factors. High energy costs, particularly for gas, diesel, and electricity, have significantly increased production expenses. Rising transportation and logistics costs, compounded by fuel price hikes and poor road infrastructure, have further impacted distribution. Exchange rate fluctuations have also affected the cost of imported machinery and inputs used in production. Additionally, the growing demand for housing, infrastructure, and private building projects has intensified pressure on supply, while general inflation has increased operational, maintenance, and labor expenses.
