Davido Takes Fresh Action Amid Pressure Over Controversial Music Video

After facing significant backlash from some Muslims on social media, the afrobeat sensation David Adeleke, known as Davido, has given in to the pressure and removed the controversial music video he posted on his pages last week.

Earlier, Davido had shared a 45-second video clip of his signee, Logos Olori’s new song, ‘Jaye Lo,’ on Friday, July 21, as a way of promoting the song before its official release.

However, the video sparked controversy as it depicted men dressed as praying mallams dancing in front of a mosque, rather than engaging in prayer.

This portrayal offended some Muslims, who took to social media to criticize the artist. Many of them demanded that he take down the video and apologize to his Muslim fans.

A check of Davido’s social media pages on Monday confirmed that the music video has been deleted.

Reacting to the situation, Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to President Buhari, commended Davido for removing the offensive video and hoped that the controversial scene would also be removed from the actual footage before releasing it to the public.

He urged Davido and other artists to avoid repeating such grave mistakes, emphasizing the beauty of living in unity and harmony while embracing differences in Nigeria.

Some Nigerian Muslims, however, insisted that simply deleting the video is not sufficient. They called for Davido to offer an unreserved apology to his Muslim fans.

One Twitter user mentioned that an apology video should be published in two national dailies, with a promise that such a mistake would not be repeated in the future. Otherwise, they indicated that the criticism would continue.
