Deji Adeyanju Slams Nigerian Government for Targeting Protesters While Ignoring Yahaya Bello
Prominent activist Deji Adeyanju has voiced his disapproval of the Nigerian government’s double standards in handling justice. Adeyanju criticized the authorities for swiftly prosecuting peaceful protesters while turning a blind eye to alleged wrongdoings by Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
In a recent statement, Adeyanju expressed his frustration, highlighting the government’s tendency to clamp down on citizens exercising their right to protest. He pointed out that while protesters are quickly arrested and brought to trial, influential figures like Bello seem to escape accountability for alleged mismanagement and corruption.
Adeyanju questioned why the same urgency isn’t applied when it comes to investigating serious allegations against powerful politicians. “It’s ironic that protesters demanding better governance are met with swift action, yet individuals with significant accusations, such as Yahaya Bello, seem untouchable,” he remarked.
The activist urged the government to adopt a fair and consistent approach to justice, ensuring that both ordinary citizens and those in positions of power are held accountable for their actions. Adeyanju’s comments have sparked widespread discussion, with many Nigerians echoing his call for equality in the judicial process.
A Call for Justice
Adeyanju’s criticism shines a light on the broader issue of selective justice in Nigeria, where activists and common citizens face harsh penalties for speaking out, while some political elites remain shielded from scrutiny. He urged the Nigerian government to act swiftly and fairly in all cases, regardless of the individuals involved.
