Dele Odule Reveals He Once Priced His Own Casket Amid Personal Crisis
According to Ireporter Online, veteran Yoruba actor, Dele Odule, has recounted a deeply challenging phase in his life during which he reached a personal low point and even priced his own coffin.
In a recent interview circulated on social media, the acclaimed actor, best known for his roles in films such as Ti Oluwa Ni Ile, disclosed that the incident occurred while he was going through emotional and financial turmoil in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He explained that at the time, he felt completely overwhelmed by life’s difficulties and doubted his ability to recover or succeed again.
Odule revealed that he was in such a distressed state that he once went as far as checking the cost of his own casket. “I had priced my own casket before when everything and my life were in shambles in Abeokuta. I didn’t get myself anymore; I didn’t believe I could break through,” he said.
He also noted that fellow actor Olaiya Igwe witnessed the painful moment with him, adding that the experience was emotionally intense for both of them. “Olaiya Igwe knows about it; I went there with him, and he started crying like a baby,” Odule added.
Born in 1959 in Ile-Ife, Osun State, and originally from Oru Ijebu in Ogun State, Dele Odule has built a long-standing career in Nigerian theatre and film since the late 1980s. Over the years, he has become a respected figure in the Yoruba film industry and previously served as President of the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
