In a daring confrontation, Delta State Police Command engaged in a fierce gun battle with suspected armed robbers, resulting in the demise of one suspect, as confirmed by DSP Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer.
In a bid to combat the rising tide of house-to-house robberies plaguing Asaba and surrounding areas, Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, issued a stern directive to area commanders and divisional police officers to take decisive action against criminals.
Responding to a distress call about an ongoing armed robbery operation at Marble Hill Junction, operatives from Delta Hawk, in collaboration with officers from Opkanam Division, swiftly mobilized to the scene.
Upon arrival, the armed robbers, upon sighting the police team, immediately opened fire, prompting the officers to retaliate in defense. In the exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects sustained fatal injuries, while the others managed to evade capture, fleeing the scene.
Efforts were made to provide medical assistance to the injured suspect, who was subsequently rushed to the hospital. Despite receiving treatment, he tragically succumbed to his injuries, underscoring the intensity of the encounter.
Assuring the residents of Delta State of their safety, the police spokesperson reiterated the commitment of law enforcement agencies to relentlessly pursue and apprehend criminals, ensuring that citizens can rest easy with the assurance of enhanced security measures.
