“Deputy Governor Salako-Oyedele Advocates Digital Platforms For Spreading Islam”

Ogun State Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele has urged Islamic societies to intensify efforts in communicating the core values and norms of Islam to younger generations.

According to iReporter Online, she stressed the importance of leveraging various social media platforms to propagate the religion, reach wider audiences, and attract more followers.

Salako-Oyedele made these remarks while receiving members of the Alasalatu Society of Nigeria and West Africa (ASONWA) during a courtesy visit at her office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday.

According to iReporter Online, the society, led by Khaleefah and Missioner Khaleefah Akorede Abdulfatai, emphasized that taking Islamic activities online would not only attract greater followership but also provide more accessible information about the deen.

Abdulfatai highlighted the need for Muslim societies to evolve with the times, noting, “Before now, we used to go round from town to town across Yorubaland and Ilorin to propagate Islam.

This was how Dawah was done in the 30s and 40s, but now, in the 21st century, Dawah can also be done online.”

According to iReporter Online, she further explained that since many young people are constantly on the move yet frequently connected via internet-enabled mobile phones and social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, online engagement is essential to catch the next generation.

She also emphasized that while adhering to the tenets of Islam, societies must remain broad-minded to welcome more people into the fold and prevent Muslims from leaving the religion.

Abdulfatai praised the deputy governor as a true ambassador of Islam, lauding her continued support for both the growth of Islam and the empowerment of women. She prayed for her to continue spreading the faith, asking God to grant her wisdom, favour, and grace.

Also speaking, Captain Rasheed Raji, the Grand Patron of ASONWA and former Military Administrator of Bauchi and Sokoto States, commended Salako-Oyedele for her contributions to propagating Islam.

He described her as a religious, loving, kind, and accommodating woman who deeply cares for women’s interests.

The event culminated in the decoration of Her Excellency as a Patron of ASONWA.
