Nollywood star and politician Desmond Elliot has shed light on the inspiration behind his striking outfit at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Elliot recently stirred up conversation online after stepping out in a bold black two-piece outfit—featuring a shirt and a skirt adorned with a prominent elephant print.

Speaking with Punch about the fashion statement, Elliot explained:

“These days, I’m more involved in politics, so when I get the rare chance to appear publicly, I like to stand out. I prefer not to make noise with words but let my appearance speak volumes. It can go either way—people might love it or completely criticize it. But life is about taking risks, and at 50, boldness is essential.

What fuels my confidence is the elephant motif—my personal symbol. The elephant represents strength, power, loyalty, stability, and love.”

When asked if he enjoys being in the spotlight, Elliot responded:

“I wouldn’t say I love it, but it’s fine. I try not to go overboard anymore. After experiencing what’s often called a ‘midlife crisis,’ I’ve learned to focus on how I feel in the moment. At the end of the day, it’s just my way of saying people should live their lives freely.”

On whether he is currently navigating a midlife crisis, the actor humorously added:

“That’s assuming I’m not still in the middle of it.”
