Police in Ogun State have arrested ten suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in Sagamu, who allegedly attacked and injured police officers in an attempt to elude capture.

Three people were killed by suspected cultists in Sagamu last week, according to reports on Saturday.

According to police, the arrest of the ten suspects is part of “Operation Clampdown on Cultists.”

The arrested suspects have been identified as Adekoya Adesina, Ayinde Olumide, Adebayo Jamiu, Johnson Adeyemi, Ajayi Temitope, Taiwo Olatunji, Oladapo Ayeye, Tunde Banjo, Gbenga Morufu, and Tunde Adenuga, according to the spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi.

Their arrest came after a tip that some cultists had gathered at various locations in Odogbolu and were planning to unleash terror in Sagamu as part of a supremacy battle.

The Police Anti-Cultism Unit mobilized and moved against them to prevent the planned attack.

“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums attacked them with dangerous weapons. They were, however, subdued, after which 10 of the cultists were apprehended,” Oyeyemi stated.

The police spokesperson added that SP Morakinyo Adejumo, the second-in-command officer of the unit, “was seriously injured during the operation and was rushed to the hospital, where he is responding to treatment.”
