Details Emerge On Murder Of Former Niger Secretary By 18-Year-Old Suspect

New information has surfaced regarding the tragic murder of Adamu Jagaba, a former Permanent Secretary in the Niger State civil service, by 18-year-old panel beater Fatiyah Abdulhakeem…READ MORE…

According to sources cited by Arewa PUNCH, Jagaba, who also owned a block moulding business, had invited Abdulhakeem to his office last Saturday to assess bodywork needed on his Toyota Camry. Shortly after entering the office, Abdulhakeem revealed a dagger he had concealed in his flowing ‘babanriga’ and viciously attacked Jagaba, stabbing him in the head and neck.

Witnesses reported that Jagaba was taken aback by the sudden assault. As blood poured from his wounds, he grasped Abdulhakeem’s wrist and bit him twice in a desperate attempt to escape. However, the young assailant continued his attack. Realizing his life was in jeopardy, Jagaba pleaded for mercy, promising to give Abdulhakeem money if that was his motive. “Why do you want to take my life? If it’s money you seek, I will give it to you, but please don’t kill me,” he cried.

Despite his pleas, Abdulhakeem brutally struck Jagaba with a stapling machine found in the office, delivering a fatal blow.

Arewa PUNCH further learned that on the day prior to the murder, a customer had come to the block industry and paid Jagaba a substantial amount of money, which some employees were aware of. It is alleged that one of these workers conspired with Abdulhakeem to rob Jagaba, leading to the deadly confrontation.

After the attack, Abdulhakeem searched the office for the car keys and drove away in Jagaba’s Toyota Camry. He first went to his grandmother’s house along Bosso Road, where he claimed the car belonged to a customer who had hired him to clean it. Abdulhakeem then sold the vehicle for N2 million.

Authorities began searching for Abdulhakeem as the primary suspect following the discovery of Jagaba’s body. When they traced him to his grandmother’s home, she defended him, insisting that he was just a youth incapable of committing such a horrendous act and pleaded with police to let him go.

However, sources revealed to Arewa PUNCH that upon his arrest, Abdulhakeem confessed to the murder, claiming he had committed similar crimes before, always returning to his grandmother’s house afterward.

Jagaba’s death shocked his community and fellow church members, as he was an active member of the Saint Michael Catholic Church and a Knight of St. Mulumba. The congregation expressed disbelief and horror at the news, praying for justice. A one-minute silence was observed in his memory, and his burial is scheduled for Friday, December 13. Jagaba was remembered as a dedicated community member and generous individual.

Sympathizers have been visiting his family to express their condolences.

Abdulhakeem’s alleged crime soon caught up with him when vigilant police operatives arrested him shortly after. Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun reported that Abdulhakeem was apprehended on Sunday along with the stolen vehicle.

Abiodun shared, “The suspect has confessed to killing Jagaba and mentioned that he conspired with some of Jagaba’s employees to carry out the act.” He explained that following a local alert about the vehicle, the Crack Squad intercepted Abdulhakeem along Bosso Estate Road in Minna.

During interrogation, Abdulhakeem confirmed that he had visited Jagaba to discuss work on the car, then deliberately attacked him with the dagger, followed by striking him with the stapler. He also mentioned having accomplices in these criminal activities and provided their names for further investigation.

The police continue to pursue other gang members involved, and Abdulhakeem will face prosecution once the investigation concludes.
