According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen stormed the premises, bypassed other residents, and directly targeted Prince, shooting him in the abdomen. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The attack happened in the presence of his girlfriend, who sounded the alarm after the assailants fled.

Prince, who had just completed his final examinations and was preparing for his project defense ahead of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, was well-known in the community for his active role in his church’s choral group.

A neighbor recalled, “I saw him with his girlfriend yesterday evening. They were both in high spirits. It’s shocking how quickly things turned tragic.”

Police Confirm Incident Amid Rising Concerns

Timfon John, the spokesperson for the Akwa Ibom Police Command, confirmed the incident, noting that the area has seen increased cult-related violence and robberies. Authorities are investigating the case, but no arrests have been made.

Residents have expressed fears over the growing scourge of cult-related killings in the region, blaming slow and inadequate responses from security agencies. Civil society groups have also called out the government for its failure to curb such violence and prosecute perpetrators.

The late Prince’s tragic death serves as a grim reminder of the insecurity plaguing communities and the urgent need for stronger measures to combat cultism and violent crime.
