Dollar–Naira Exchange Rate Update For April 22, 2026
The exchange rate of the United States dollar to the Nigerian naira at the parallel market, commonly referred to as the black market, has continued to draw attention among forex traders and the general public. According to market sources, the dollar was traded at an average selling rate of ₦1400 and a buying rate of ₦1393 on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Lagos parallel market.
Reports indicate that these figures were obtained from Bureau De Change (BDC) operators who remain key players in the informal foreign exchange segment. The parallel market, often called “Aboki FX,” operates outside official regulatory frameworks and reflects real-time demand and supply dynamics in the forex market.
Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has maintained its stance against the recognition of the black market, reiterating that individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange should conduct transactions through authorized financial institutions such as commercial banks.
At the official market, data shows that the dollar traded within a range, with the highest rate recorded at ₦1357 and the lowest at ₦1345. Analysts note that disparities between the official and parallel market rates persist due to forex supply constraints and market pressures.
It is important to note that exchange rates may vary slightly depending on location, volume of transaction, and the dealer involved, as the forex market remains highly volatile.
