Drama Unfolds: Rema Accused Of Using Police Against Interior Designer

The Police Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, has responded to allegations that Nigerian music star, Rema, deployed police officers to intimidate an interior decorator he reportedly engaged for a project.

A social media user identified as @software_artist had, on Tuesday, September 16, alleged on that the singer contracted an interior decorator, Amaka, for the renovation of his new residence but later refused to settle her balance after she completed the job. The post further claimed that Rema resorted to using police operatives to intimidate the decorator instead of paying her dues.

In reaction, the FCID spokesperson, ASP Maiyegun Aminat, clarified that the matter stemmed from a formal petition submitted to the department. According to her, the petitioner explained that an agreement was reached on April 4, 2023, with Miss Amaka Obasi of Ardeb Lifestyle Company for a project worth ₦386 million. While ₦287 million was paid as part payment, the remaining balance was to be settled after completion.

However, upon inspection, the petitioner allegedly discovered that the project remained incomplete and that some of the furniture items claimed to have been delivered were not found at the site. Investigators further disclosed that Miss Obasi failed to honor the contractual terms after receiving the funds and even transferred part of the money into another account.

The police also noted that the account used by Ardeb Lifestyle Company was improperly registered. ASP Aminat added that both parties were advised to hire an independent valuer to verify the status of the funds and project execution, but Miss Obasi reportedly declined to provide either a valuation report or legal representation until her eventual arrest.

The FCID urged the public to be cautious about misleading narratives on social media, emphasizing that the Nigeria Police Force operates strictly within the ambit of the law and not for personal interests or vendettas.
