DSS, NASENI Unveil Nigeria’s First Locally-Made High-Tech Security Equipment

According to Ireporter Online, Nigeria has achieved a significant breakthrough in its drive toward technological independence, as the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) successfully developed advanced locally produced security technology.

Speaking in Abuja, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, described the development as a major stride in the nation’s quest to strengthen its indigenous capacity for intelligence and operational efficiency within the security sector. He noted that the project enjoys the full backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration has prioritized local innovation across strategic sectors.

Halilu disclosed that a cutting-edge manufacturing facility jointly established by NASENI and the DSS in Abuja has been completed and fitted with modern equipment and technologies designed to revolutionize national security operations. He explained that DSS Director General, Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, has remained committed to implementing the President’s directive urging security agencies to embrace homegrown innovation and reduce dependence on imported technologies.

According to Halilu, both agencies have invested heavily in training personnel and building the technical expertise required for the domestic production of sophisticated security devices. He added that while the specific details of the equipment remain classified for operational reasons, the collaboration marks the beginning of a new chapter in Nigeria’s ability to design, produce, and maintain critical security technologies locally.

He further emphasized that the initiative aligns with the President’s vision of a self-reliant and technologically advanced Nigeria, one that can produce its own defense infrastructure and reduce reliance on foreign imports. This strategic alliance, Halilu explained, leverages NASENI’s engineering and research capabilities to deliver innovative solutions tailored to the country’s security needs.

Halilu expressed optimism that this breakthrough will not only enhance national security but also position Nigeria as a regional hub for security technology manufacturing in West Africa. He affirmed that the achievement represents a major step in realizing sustainable, locally driven solutions that strengthen both the nation’s security framework and economic resilience.
