Ebonyi Assembly Passes Bill Establishing Correctional Service

The bill was passed at the Legislative Complex in Abakaliki following thorough deliberations by the members. Speaker Rt. Hon. Moses Odunwa praised the bill, stating that it aligns with Governor Francis Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs manifesto, which prioritizes the welfare and core needs of the people. He expressed satisfaction with the unanimous and swift passage of the bill, emphasizing the potential for rehabilitating offenders to become responsible members of society.

The Leader of the House, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, highlighted that the bill encompasses the administration of custodial and non-custodial services in the state. He emphasized the innocence of some inmates and hoped that their proper rehabilitation and integration into society would contribute to the state’s labor market.

Other members, including Hon. Arinze Lucas Chukwu, Hon. Onyebuchi Ogbadu, and Hon. Friday Ogbuewu, voiced support for the bill’s speedy passage, commending Governor Francis Nwifuru for consistently prioritizing the people’s interests.

Additionally, there was a motion for the immediate rehabilitation of a portion of the entrance road leading to the Chief Judge of the State and the Speaker’s quarters. This motion was moved by Hon. Abiri Godwin Abiri and seconded by Hon. Oluchukwu Ukie Ezeali.
