Ebonyi Leaders Rally Support For Tinubu, Nwifuru Ahead Of 2027
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Ebonyi State indigenes residing in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have declared their support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru, endorsing both leaders for second terms in office.
According to Ireporter Online, the endorsement was made during a major gathering held in Abuja on Saturday, where members of the Ebonyi community, political stakeholders, youth groups and cultural organisations came together to express confidence in the leadership of the two politicians.
The event, organised by the Abuja chapter of the FON Youth Movement in collaboration with the Ebonyi State Community in the FCT, attracted prominent political figures, including the three senators representing Ebonyi State and members of the House of Representatives.
Participants said their decision was influenced by what they described as the impact of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs initiative.
The motion endorsing the two leaders was moved by the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, and seconded by Hon. Chinedu Ogah, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency.
The endorsement received unanimous approval from attendees, who argued that retaining both leaders would allow ongoing development programmes and reforms at the federal and state levels to continue.
Speakers at the event urged Nigerians to assess the Tinubu administration based on its reform agenda, highlighting policies such as fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms and tax restructuring as measures aimed at improving the country’s economic stability.
They also pointed to federal government investments in infrastructure, agriculture, housing, power and security, describing the initiatives as part of efforts to strengthen national development.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the stakeholders described President Tinubu as a leader willing to make difficult decisions to reposition the country and create opportunities for future generations.
At the state level, Governor Francis Nwifuru was praised for what participants described as significant achievements across education, healthcare, youth empowerment and infrastructure.
They highlighted projects including the establishment of the University of ICT, Oferekpe, the University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering, recruitment of over 2,000 teachers, construction of model schools and scholarship programmes for students within Nigeria and abroad.
The governor was also commended for healthcare initiatives, including the rehabilitation of hospitals, provision of medical equipment, deployment of ambulances and efforts to improve the welfare of health workers.
Stakeholders further acknowledged the administration’s youth and women empowerment programmes, skills acquisition initiatives, grants and employment opportunities, saying they had contributed to improving livelihoods across the state.
Chairman of the organising committee and Federal Commissioner representing Ebonyi State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr Henry Awuruegu, described the gathering as a reflection of the unity and aspirations of Ebonyi people outside the state.
He stated that the event represented more than a political gathering, describing it as an expression of support for leadership, progress and continued development.
The President-General of the Ebonyi Community in the FCT, Chief Idenyi Chinedu, also said the endorsement reflected the confidence of Ebonyi indigenes in the leadership of Tinubu and Nwifuru and their desire for current development programmes to continue beyond 2027.
