Edo boasts a robust social media following and an electorate known for their confidence in their knowledge. In light of this, today’s conversation will revolve around the challenges currently confronting the APC in the state.Edo, like its neighboring state Delta, is known for its colorful street lingo. Locals might use phrases like “on delay mode” to describe a situation characterized by sluggish progress or stagnation. Unfortunately, it seems that the Edo APC finds itself in precisely such a predicament.

The PDP has finalized its choice for the deputy Governorship candidate, granting the ticket to Osarodion Ogie to run alongside Asue Ighodalo. Undeniably, their presence has permeated every corner of Edo, akin to the ubiquity of MTN’s slogan “everywhere you go.” Asue Ighodalo’s fervor for campaign activities is evident, with his extensive appearances and significant traction gained.

Contrarily, the APC appears to lack a gubernatorial candidate, with no visible activity from Senator Okpebholo, who has already received the party’s certificate of return. His absence from the scene suggests he may be facing challenges, possibly exacerbated by the ongoing court case filed against him and the party in the State by Dennis Idahosa, the initial election victor. Recently, the issue was brought before the court, and during the proceedings, the court raised some significant questions before adjourning the case. These queries not only add intrigue but also make the case compelling and deserving of continued attention. As per the court’s remarks…

“Your national publicity secretary said the process will continue (find attached on exhibit 3) your organising secretary said only Hope Uzodinma can declare results (find on exhibit 4) your national chairman congratulated the petitioner (find attached on exhibit 5) your NWC said the 22nd primaries is a continuation of the 17th process (find attached on exhibit 6) the new committee headed by Governor announced in Benin that they are here to conduct a fresh primaries (find attached on exhibit 7). Please can you (1st respondent – APC lawyer) reconcile this and advise the court please?”

The implications of the court statement on the other respondent, which is the APC in the case of Edo APC Primary Election, are significant and raise questions about the consistency and coherence of the party’s statements and actions.

The court’s request for the APC lawyer to reconcile these conflicting statements and provide clarification underscores the need for the party to present a coherent and unified position before the court. Failure to do so could weaken the party’s legal standing and credibility in the case.

Once again, the party has delayed its decision-making process, with over five deputy governorship aspirants being considered to accompany Senator Okpebholo. Surprisingly, there appears to be little anxiety in Benin regarding this matter. There are even speculations suggesting Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama as a potential running mate for Okpebholo. This strategic maneuver could serve the party well if they opt to proceed without giving due consideration to the youthful Dennis Idahosa.
