In a press briefing held earlier today in Benin, the PDP chairman in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi, conveyed the party’s deep sadness regarding the unfortunate event. Aziegbemi, addressing journalists, acknowledged the peaceful and credible conduct of the ward delegates Congress, highlighting the regrettable incident of the kidnapped electoral officers.

The chairman stated that the entire process was characterized by peace and fairness, except for the distressing incident in Etsako Central. Aziegbemi noted that the panel, headed by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, had decided to nullify the results from Etsako Central due to the abduction.

Explaining the situation, Aziegbemi said, “The vehicle conveying the electoral officers was kidnapped somewhere in Jattu on Sunday morning.” He emphasized that despite efforts to locate the electoral officers during the Congress, they were unaccounted for.

Aziegbemi confirmed the decision of the panel to exclude Etsako Central from the overall results, stating that the impact on the governorship primaries scheduled for February 22 would be negligible.

Addressing concerns about the upcoming election exacerbating insecurity, Aziegbemi commended the state’s security agencies for their robust efforts during the Congress. He expressed confidence in the agencies and dismissed the notion that the security situation would escalate due to the election.

However, the PDP chairman cautioned against negative statements made by nine governorship aspirants who chose to boycott the exercise. He urged them to direct their concerns to the committee led by Seriaki Dickson, emphasizing the party’s commitment to reconciliation and maintaining its position of power in the state.
