Having achieved four wins and a draw since the commencement of the tournament on January 13, the Super Eagles have showcased a robust defensive strategy, conceding only one goal in five games. While acknowledging the defensive strength of his team, Peseiro emphasizes the need for greater efficiency in scoring goals.

Nigeria’s journey in the tournament started with a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, followed by a 1-0 victory over Ivory Coast. The group stage campaign concluded with a 1-0 win against Guinea-Bissau. In the knockout stages, the Super Eagles secured a 2-0 victory over Cameroon and a 1-0 win against Angola in the quarter-finals on February 2, 2024.

The team’s defensive resilience has positioned them as having the best defense in the tournament, but Peseiro acknowledges the absence of key creators Kelechi Iheanacho and Joe Aribo in the starting lineup. Despite the satisfactory performance, the coach emphasizes the importance of creating more opportunities and aims for greater efficiency in scoring goals.
