Suspected kidnappers seized control of buses belonging to God Is Good Motors and ABC Transport on Saturday, February 3, in Kogi State, perpetrating the crime.
The alarming news was initially reported by social media influencer Chude Nnamdi on February 4, who raised the alarm about the hijacking. According to Nnamdi, the passengers, including his wife, were taken hostage in the GIG bus, and the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N15 million.
In an update on Monday, Nnamdi expressed concern about the apparent normalization of such incidents, emphasizing the severity of the situation. Eyewitnesses shared details, stating that the abduction occurred around 3 pm along Olamaboro LGA, after a sharp road bend, not far from a police checkpoint. The GIG driver managed to escape but sustained injuries.
Confirming the incident, Kogi State Police Command spokesperson, SP. William Ovye Aya, disclosed that the abduction took place on Inele Eteke Ogugu new road in Olamaboro. The victims were onboard God Is Good Motors (12 passengers) and ABC Sienna Bus (2 passengers). The police, along with local vigilantes and hunters, are actively engaged in a rescue operation. The Chief of Police has deployed additional tactical squads to comb the bush and ensure the safe rescue of all victims.
The situation remains tense as efforts are underway to locate and bring back the abducted passengers unharmed.
