2027: Makinde Fires Back At Governorship Aspirants, Says “Stop Abusing Me

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has challenged politicians seeking to succeed him in the 2027 governorship election to stop attacking his administration and instead present clear plans to the people of the state.

According to Ireporter Online, Makinde made the remarks on Monday while speaking at a programme in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

His comments came amid discussions involving several politicians preparing to contest the 2027 governorship election, including broadcaster and Accord governorship candidate Oriyomi Hamzat, who had spoken about his role in Makinde’s emergence in politics.

Makinde said politicians seeking to become the next governor should concentrate on explaining their programmes and telling residents what they intend to do differently if elected, rather than focusing their campaigns on criticisms of his administration.

The governor stressed that he would not be a candidate in the 2027 governorship election, noting that the people of Oyo State had given him the opportunity to serve and that his tenure would come to an end in accordance with constitutional provisions.

He urged the aspirants to sell their ideas to the electorate and allow residents to determine who should succeed him based on their programmes and capacity to govern.

Makinde also encouraged voters to demand accountability from all governorship candidates by asking them how they intend to build on the achievements of his administration and address areas where his government may not have met expectations.

He maintained that the incoming administration should focus on completing projects and initiatives that could not be concluded during his tenure while also correcting any shortcomings identified in the present administration.

The governor said such an approach would ensure that the next government prioritises the interests of Oyo State residents and works towards further improving the state.

Makinde’s comments come as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with various aspirants expected to begin outlining their programmes and seeking support from voters across the state.
