Nigeria secured their spot in the final by defeating South Africa’s Bafana Bafana 4-2 in a penalty shootout during their semi-final clash at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake on Wednesday night.

William Troost-Ekong broke the deadlock with a penalty in the 67th minute, putting Nigeria in the lead.

However, South Africa managed to equalize from the penalty spot three minutes from full time through Teboho Mokoena.

Despite the tough challenge posed by South Africa, Nigeria emerged victorious in the penalty shootout, converting four out of five kicks.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Peseiro commended his players for their performance and resilience.

“The players deserve all the credit for reaching the final. It was a hard-fought victory against a formidable opponent,” Peseiro stated.

“Earlier, I mentioned that South Africa’s organization is top-notch. They played cohesively and created numerous challenges for us. It was a tough task to overcome them,” he added.

The Super Eagles are now set to face hosts Cote d’Ivoire in the final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan, on Sunday.
