Edo Governor Okpebholo Names Mercy Johnson As Special Adviser
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has appointed renowned Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson as his Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy. The development was confirmed in a statement released on Thursday by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the Edo State Government, according to Ireporter Online.
The statement highlighted Mrs. Johnson-Okojie’s extensive career in the Nigerian film industry, noting her two-decade-long presence in Nollywood with over 200 films to her credit. Her remarkable achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including recognition at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) and other notable platforms.
Beyond her accomplishments in entertainment, Mercy Johnson-Okojie is lauded for her humanitarian and advocacy efforts through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation. She has championed initiatives promoting women empowerment, child welfare, education, and healthcare, consistently using her public platform to advance social responsibility and community development.
In her new role, Mrs. Johnson-Okojie is expected to leverage her influence, communication skills, and grassroots reach to enhance citizens’ engagement with government programs and policies. The statement emphasized that the appointment reflects Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to involving distinguished Nigerians with credibility and public goodwill in driving Edo State’s development agenda.
