In a significant political twist in Edo State, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, a prominent gubernatorial aspirant from the Central Senatorial District, is poised to emerge as the consensus candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)…..CONTINUE READING
This development comes as key contenders from the district have gracefully withdrawn their aspirations in favor of Ighodalo, streamlining the selection process for the PDP’s Screening Committee led by Chief Tom Ikimi.
High-profile figures, including Hon. Marcus Onobun, a former Speaker and current member of the House of Representatives for the Esan West, Esan Central, and Igueben Federal Constituency, have thrown their weight behind Ighodalo. Senator Clifford Ordia, ex-Speaker Friday Itulah, and Kenneth Ahbulimen have also joined this collective endorsement, reflecting a strong sense of patriotism and dedication to the interests of the Esan and Edo people.
In a heartfelt letter to the Screening Committee, Onobun officially endorsed Ighodalo, expressing regret for his absence during the screening of Esan aspirants due to his grandfather’s funeral. He underscored that his decision to support Ighodalo was the result of careful consultation, reflecting a spirit of sportsmanship and respect for the leaders of Esan land.
Describing Ighodalo as a credible, competent, and qualified aspirant, Onobun pledged to work diligently for the success of an Esan candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial elections.
This consensus around Ighodalo not only simplifies the Screening Committee’s task but also showcases a unified front within the PDP in Edo Central.
As the political landscape in Edo State intensifies in anticipation of the gubernatorial election, the emergence of Dr. Asue Ighodalo as a consensus candidate represents a crucial moment for the PDP. It signifies a strategic move to consolidate support and resources, potentially bolstering the party’s standing in the electoral contest.
The unfolding days will reveal the impact of this development on the dynamics of the gubernatorial race in Edo State. In a statement, Onobun expressed his commitment to supporting Ighodalo and his fervent desire to see an Esan man assume the role of Edo governor in 2024.
