Bello, who has been declared wanted by the EFCC, faces accusations of misappropriating approximately N80 billion from the Kogi treasury. The commission is seeking to arraign him on 19 counts of money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of funds totaling N80.2 billion.
Despite facing resistance during an attempted arrest at his Abuja residence, Bello remains under scrutiny by the EFCC, with the agency obtaining permission from the Federal High Court to proceed with his arrest.
Meanwhile, Hadi Sirika has been questioned by the EFCC over alleged involvement in an N8 billion fraud related to aviation contracts. The investigation revolves around contracts awarded to a company owned by Sirika’s brother, with allegations of conspiracy, abuse of office, and contract inflation.
The EFCC’s actions have sparked public discourse, with some praising the agency’s renewed vigor while others criticize it for targeting soft targets while neglecting corrupt politicians. Amidst these developments, concerns have been raised about the role of lawyers, with suggestions of paid advocacy influencing public perception and legal proceedings.
As the EFCC continues its investigations and legal proceedings, the cases against Bello and Sirika underscore ongoing efforts to combat corruption and uphold accountability in public office.
