EFCC – Emefiele Printed ₦684.5 Million With ₦18.9 Billion
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has leveled fresh allegations against former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele. The charges, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, accuse Emefiele of various financial irregularities, including approving the printing of N684,590,000 at a rate of N18.96 billion…..READ ALSO EFCC Confirms Investigation Into Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika
Among the accusations, the EFCC alleges that Emefiele unlawfully authorized the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation. Scheduled to appear before Justice Maryann Anenih, Emefiele faces a new four-count charge, including disobedience of the law, illegal money printing, abuse of office, and other offenses.
The charges outline instances where Emefiele allegedly bypassed legal procedures, causing financial injury to the public. These actions, according to the EFCC, occurred during Emefiele’s implementation of the naira swap policy under the former administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Emefiele’s arraignment, slated for April 30, 2024, follows previous charges related to procurement fraud and financial misconduct. The EFCC’s continued pursuit reflects ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and transparency in financial governance.
