Ekiti Tribunal Fixes Date To Deliver Judgement

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which is based in Ado, the capital of Ekiti State, will issue its decision on Thursday.

The Electoral Act’s 180-day deadline to hear the petition is set to expire on January 2, 2023.

Former Governor Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) filed a petition at the tribunal on July 7 challenging the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, as the election winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He is basing his case on allegations of election rigging through voter inducement and the bypass of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at some polling stations, as well as the authenticity of the WAEC certificate presented by the All Progressives Congress’s Deputy Governorship candidate, Monisade Afuye, among other things.

The three-man election petitions tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, adjourned indefinitely for judgment on November 23 after the petition’s parties adopted their final written addresses.
