American singer Akon is facing a major turning point in his personal life as his wife, Tomeka Thiam, has filed for divorce just days before their 29th wedding anniversary. According to Ireporter Online, court documents filed on September 12 show that Tomeka cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending the marriage.

Tomeka, who has been married to the 52-year-old music star for nearly three decades, is requesting joint legal custody and sole physical custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Journey. She is also seeking spousal support while asking the court to deny Akon any financial support in return.

The development has drawn renewed attention to Akon’s family life, which has often been surrounded by speculation. The artist, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, has previously revealed that he has nine children—seven boys and two girls—with different women.
