End Of The Road! Police Hunt Down Ex-Convict Who Terrorized Ekpoma In Brutal Heist

The Edo State Police Command has apprehended an ex-convict, Richard John Abdullahi, for his involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Moses Joel Yamu, disclosed in a statement on Friday, September 27, 2024, that Abdullahi and his accomplices raided the residence of Promise Ehichoya in Ekpoma, abducted him, and extorted a ransom of N6,000,000 before releasing him.

The gang also made off with the victim’s vehicle, alongside several household items, including electronics, phones, jewelry, and clothing.

Acting on intelligence, operatives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) tracked down and arrested Abdullahi in the Zone C area of Apo resettlement quarters, Abuja.

During interrogation, Abdullahi revealed the identities of his co-conspirators, including one Lucky, whom he had met while serving time at Koton-Karfe Prison in Kogi State.

According to SP Yamu, the gang broke into Ehichoya’s home in Illela quarters, Ekpoma, on May 7, 2024, around 1 a.m. They kidnapped him and demanded a N6,000,000 ransom for his release, after which they fled with various stolen items. However, the victim’s vehicle, a Toyota Venza with registration number LND 438 HM, was later recovered by the police.

Upon Abdullahi’s arrest, a Beretta pistol with three live rounds of ammunition was found in his possession. Further searches led to the recovery of a gold chain and bracelet stolen during the Ekpoma kidnapping.

Abdullahi identified his accomplices as the gang leader, Ishmael Peter, Emmanuel Audu, and Lucky. Police later recovered additional stolen items from the homes of Peter and Audu, but the suspects remain at large.
