Ex-PDP Spokesman: Jonathan’s Move to ADC Could Push Atiku Out
A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Diran Odeyemi, has suggested that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar may exit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) if former President Goodluck Jonathan joins the party.
Speaking on a political programme on Tuesday, Odeyemi claimed that the ADC’s current alignment with Atiku could serve as a “political trap” for any presidential hopeful. He alleged that Atiku had moved his loyalists into the party, effectively giving him significant influence over its structure and strategy.
According to Odeyemi, such dominance could discourage other aspirants from pursuing presidential ambitions within the ADC. He argued that if Jonathan were to join the party, Atiku would likely withdraw to avoid potential political conflicts.
Odeyemi also reflected on Atiku’s past political decisions, stating that if the former vice-president had chosen Peter Obi as his running mate earlier and handled internal party disputes differently, the PDP might have been in a stronger position during previous elections.
The former PDP spokesman emphasised that the ADC’s political dynamics could shift significantly depending on Jonathan’s next move, noting that the former president’s entry would almost certainly trigger Atiku’s departure.
