Exclusive: NNPP Leader Sues Borno Govt After Multi-Million Naira Mall Destruction

Reports indicate that the four-storey structure, located on Sir Kashim Ibrahim Road, opposite the State Low-Cost Housing Estate in Maiduguri, was demolished by state authorities.

Represented by his legal counsel, Hamza N. Dantani Esq. of Kayode Ajulo & Co. Castle of Law, Magira has filed a lawsuit at the Borno State High Court, challenging what he describes as an “unlawful demolition.” The case, Alhaji M. Attom Magira v. Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BOSUPDB), seeks to prevent further destruction of the property and determine if any town planning regulations were violated.

Magira alleges that the demolition was politically motivated and carried out under directives from Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration.

His lawyer stated, “This act is not just an attack on an individual’s investment but a blatant violation of the rule of law and economic stability in Borno State.”

Although the Borno government has recently conducted demolitions targeting illegal structures, no official statement has been released regarding Magira’s property.

Magira insists that he had secured all necessary permits from the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BOSUPDB) and had met all statutory requirements for the construction.

He further emphasized that his investment was a source of employment for many residents and a boost to local businesses, arguing that the demolition is a setback for economic development in a state already struggling with insecurity and economic challenges.
