According to Ireporter Online, the controversy intensified after a recent photograph surfaced showing Abure presenting a Labour Party nomination form to former National Vice Chairman, Ceekay Igara, alongside other party members, in what appeared to be part of preparations ahead of upcoming political activities.

Igara, while confirming receipt of the forms in a media interview, explained that stakeholders were acting in anticipation of unresolved court matters affecting the party’s leadership. He noted that caution was necessary to prevent a vacuum in the event of a final judicial ruling, adding that ongoing congresses across states could be jeopardized if leadership decisions were later reversed by the courts.

Reacting through his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Ukoha, Governor Otti questioned Abure’s continued claim to leadership of the party, insisting that existing judgments from the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal had already recognized Senator Nenadi Usman as interim leader of the Labour Party prior to its convention.

The governor’s aide maintained that Abure’s actions run contrary to subsisting court rulings, stressing that the party had already moved beyond his leadership structure. He further stated that INEC had aligned with the court-recognized leadership, making any electoral process conducted under Abure’s authority invalid.

Ukoha added that Abure should account to Nigerians for continuing to issue nomination forms despite judicial pronouncements, describing the situation as a disregard for the authority of competent courts and urging clarity on the legitimacy of his actions.
