Fake Reports: APC Petitions NBC, Demands Sanction of Arise TV, Channels

The National Broadcasting Commission has been petitioned by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to penalize Arise News and Channels TV for fabricating stories on APC Presidential Candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A petition addressed to the Director-General, Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, and signed by the PCC’s Special Adviser for Media, Communications, and Public Affairs, Dele Alake, accused the two television stations of violating broadcast codes with their actions, according to a statement made by the council’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Monday in Abuja.

Alake pointed out in the appeal that the then-inspector general of police Tafa Balogun and the US government had already exonerated Tinubu of the alleged indictment that had been broadcast and discussed on Arise News and Channels TV.

The PCC said that the NBC code had been broken by continuing to broadcast a fake “indictment.”
