Family Of Missing Akwa Ibom APC Youth Leader Demands Urgent Probe Amid Attack Allegations

The family of Mr. Ubokobong Udoworen, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth leader for Akwa Ibom-North East Senatorial district, has expressed deep concern over his disappearance after an alleged attack by hired thugs.

Udoworen was reportedly assaulted on January 18, 2024, while planning to expose the diversion of food items donated by Senator Godswill Akpabio to the youth in the senatorial district.

The family, represented by Mr. Akanimo Udom, revealed that Udoworen had raised concerns on social media about the diversion of Christmas/New Year rice and cash, naming certain personalities in the senatorial district.

The attack, according to Udom, was a deliberate attempt to prevent Udoworen from reporting the matter to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, during an APC gathering in Ikot Ekpene.

In a press briefing in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Udom called on security agencies to locate Udoworen within 24 hours. He also urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure that those responsible for the attack are held accountable.

Expressing disappointment, Udom highlighted that, despite the incident occurring nine days ago, there has been no official statement from the APC leadership in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter. Macdon assured that anyone involved in the alleged abduction or attack on the youth leader would face legal consequences.

The unfolding situation raises questions about the safety of political activists and party members in the state, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and accountability in the interest of justice.
