Navy Denies Oil Theft Allegations Against Chief, Urges Patience Amid FG Probe
The Nigerian Navy has vehemently denied allegations of oil theft and contract-splitting fraud against Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff, following directives from the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to investigate the claims….CONTINUE READING
The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding integrity and accountability within the Armed Forces, stating that allegations, though potentially mischievous, will be thoroughly investigated with a focus on due process and fairness.
In response to the allegations, the Navy labeled them as “unfounded, baseless, and malicious,” describing them as a coordinated effort by disgruntled elements affected by the navy’s intensified efforts against crude oil theft and illegal activities in the maritime domain. The navy emphasized that only the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has the authority to award or oversee oil bunkering contracts, and the Chief of Naval Staff is not involved in such processes.
The navy spokesperson, Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, asserted that the allegations would not deter the navy from combating oil theft and illegalities in the maritime sector. He clarified that all vessels involved in illegal activities are being investigated, and none have been released, as claimed in the allegations. The navy reiterated its commitment to abiding by laws and regulations, ensuring due process in contracts, and discharging its role in monitoring the maritime domain.
The public is urged to disregard the allegations, deemed as untrue and baseless, and to await the outcome of the official investigation. The Navy remains resolute in its dedication to maintaining the security and integrity of Nigeria’s maritime environment.
