She explained that all the projects she undertook as First Lady were personal initiatives, not government-supported efforts.

In an interview with News Central on Thursday, Mrs. Fashola disclosed that certain individuals had been accessing funds from the Ministry of Education under her name without her knowledge. She emphasized that she did not sway her husband’s decisions while they were in office. The empowerment programs she organized were presented to President Bola Tinubu on her 45th birthday, at which point he discovered that she had completed these projects without any government financial assistance.

“During that time, the Ministry of Education had the impression they were funding me through their department, but I was oblivious to this. I later heard that money was supposedly being allocated to me, but I never received any of it. I mentioned that even receiving half of that amount would have made a significant difference in what I could accomplish. Ultimately, no funds were given to me,” she shared.

It was only upon President Tinubu recognizing her efforts during her birthday celebration that he instructed the chairpersons of local governments to provide financial support. “That was the first and only instance when money went into my account because I had been involved in projects across every local government area,” she explained.

Mrs. Fashola also noted that she has continued her empowerment programs even after her tenure as First Lady. “These projects belong to me; I’m not transferring them to the state. They remain my personal initiatives, which is why I’m still actively running them today,” she concluded.
