This was the central focus at the BusinessDay Fintech Summit 2026 held in Lagos, themed “The Next Financial Frontier: Intelligence, Infrastructure & Inclusion in Africa’s Digital Money Economy.”
The event brought together industry leaders, fintech executives, and ecosystem partners to discuss how emerging technologies are reshaping financial services, improving infrastructure, and expanding financial inclusion across the continent.
Among the participants were the Director General of the Africa eGovernance Conference, Dr. Adeyinka Adeyemi; Group Head of e-Business at Premium Trust Bank, Abidemi Asunmo; President of the Stakeholders in Blockchain Technology Association of Nigeria, Mr. Mela Claude-Ake; and the Divisional Head of Payments and Merchant Solutions at FCMB, Oladapo Alabede.
During a panel session titled “Intelligent Finance: How AI, Data and Automation are Rewriting Financial Services,” Blessing Ehize, Chief Technology Officer at FCMB, highlighted the growing impact of artificial intelligence in transforming banking operations. He noted that AI is now central to improving risk assessment, enhancing fraud detection, and delivering more personalised customer experiences. According to him, financial institutions are increasingly relying on data-driven systems to anticipate customer needs and provide faster, smarter, and more inclusive services.
Ehize further stated that FCMB’s approach to innovation remains deliberate and responsible, stressing that the bank integrates AI in a way that strengthens efficiency while maintaining customer trust, data privacy, and regulatory compliance. He added that FCMB’s ISO 42001 certification underscores its commitment to global standards in AI governance and ethical technology use.
He also emphasised that the bank is focused on building secure, scalable, and inclusive systems that align with international best practices, ensuring that technological advancement translates into broader access to financial services across different segments of society.
